Fisherman’s Paradise
Belize is a Fisherman’s dream destination. This is the place to try your hand at catching the “Big 3”: Bonefish, Tarpon, and the elusive Permit. All three are catch and release only but while you’re at it, why not catch some delicious snapper, grouper, lionfish, or any of the other many species that call the protected waters of Belize home? Whether on a local “panga,” a sea kayak, or a chartered fishing trip, the Belize coastline has the perfect habitat for marine life and fishing: an incredible reef, an interlocking network of rivers, creeks, and lagoon, mangroves, and numerous small islands (cayes).

Bird Watching
The glorious keel billed toucan, Belize’s national bird! We love watching them hopping around, eating seeds in our trumpet trees just 15-20 feet away from our riverfront deck here at Belize River Home. Scarlet macaws, one of the most visually stunning of the thousands of birds that call Belize home or that stop on their migrations. These aracaris love our trumpet trees too!

Swimming, Hiking and Kayaking
Belize has something for everyone who enjoys the outdoors, especially for those who love swimming, hiking and kayaking. For a delightfully refreshing alternative to Belize’s glorious beaches, why not spend a day at Rio On pools and waterfalls? It’s a perfect spot for a picnic, sunbathing on the rocks, and to chill out on a hot day.
From lazy paddles to Class 4 rapids, kayaking in Belize is guaranteed to please. Hiking can be easy, such as following the trail to the Blue Hole on the Hummingbird Highway or a trip to No’hum Chen for a gentle hike followed by an inner tube float through Mayan caves. For the more adventurous there are strenuous and challenging climbs such as the one to 1000 ft Falls.
It’s always a blast to watch the La Ruta Maya 4-day canoe race from San Ignacio to Belize City. The racers start going past Belize River Home abut 10 AM on the first day so we host a big brunch on our deck for friends to enjoy the show!
